Most people don’t know that TICKS are everywhere in Indiana — and that they carry illnesses like Lyme disease that can really mess up your life.

Thankfully, there are easy steps you can take to protect yourself, your kids, and your pets from ticks and the diseases they carry.

Hungry ticks become active as early as March in Indiana, so this year we are excited to share 3 FREE Tick Safety Webinars to help you stay safe all year!

  • What: 2021 Tick Safety Webinar Series
  • When: Three Thursday evenings in March 2021 — March 4, 18, and 25, 7-8pm
  • Where: Online webinar (Links below)
  • Who should attend: Everyone who goes outside in Indiana!
  • Register: Space is limited so you must register for FREE for any of the webinars below.
  • Other details: Each event has a different topic so attend one or all. You’ll be able to submit your questions for answers each week.

The March 4 webinar is presented by Thomas Mather, Ph.D (a.k.a. the TickGuy). He is a professor of public health entomology at the University of Rhode Island. He is director of URI’s Center for Vector-borne Disease and its TickEncounter Resource Center. His research interests include the ecology of blood-sucking arthropods and dynamics of tick-transmitted diseases. His outreach through the nationally prominent website TickEncounter includes a variety of platforms for tick prevention education aimed at increasing tick literacy and preventing tick-borne diseases.

March 18 - Know the Signs + Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Learn from an MD about the signs and symptoms of tick-borne illnesses like Lyme. You’ll also discover what to do if you get a tick bite or have been in tick territory.

The March 18 webinar is presented by Dr. Kim Lentz. She is an Indiana native who graduated from Ball State University and Indiana University School of Medicine. Kimberly began dealing with Lyme disease in 2004 when members of her own family became ill. In 2010 she opened a new medical practice focusing on treating Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections. She is a board member for Indiana Lyme Connect and is a tireless advocate for health in Indiana.

March 25 - Tick Safety for Pets

Learn from a local veterinarian about Lyme prevention in dogs and protecting your pet from ticks. Discover the signs + symptoms of tick-borne illness in pets so that you can help them stay healthy while they enjoy the outdoors!

The March 25 webinar is presented by Dr. Emily Klosterman from MedVet in Carmel, Indiana. Emily Klosterman, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVIM (SAIM) is a board-certified Veterinary Internist and Medical Director at MedVet. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is the complexity and challenge of internal medicine, teaching clients about their pet’s diseases so they can better understand the goals and treatment choices regarding their pet’s healthcare. She also loves cats!
